the dogs

Took our two dogs to the local farmers market, a long hike for me with my buggered everything, but nonetheless very nice. Got some grapes and avacado and fresh ginger. Surprising there weren't any seedling stalls.

Been ages but we used to have two or three seedling stalls, one for herbs, one fro vegies, one for flowes.

Nothing.
Ah well.

And the two dogs - Nuggett is in the santa hat on this blog. The rat, officially known as Cyrano after Cyran deBergerac because he was a great lover, or humper, when we first got him. The rat is half chihuahua and half terrier and thinks its an alsation. Growls and snarls and jumps at any other dog.

The trip to the markets quietened him down a lot, too many people and too many dogs and he almost behaved. Until we get to our drive way and he tries to attack our neighbours American Pit Bull. He won't learn.

Here they are:-

garden

Middle of winter up here in Queensland and everything is growing crazily.

Buddhas hand citrus and lemon are both flowering, the lemon has fruits from mature to two weeks old on it. So's the nectarine and carambola. The soursop has fruit on it and so do the bananas.

Celery, beetroot, lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, 3 types of pumpkin, corn, beans, peas, perennial spinach, chokos all growing madly.

And the hibiscus. We pinched a six inch cutting a couple of years ago and it is thriving, covered in dozens of huge double pink flowers.

Planted a mandarin and a lemonade tree seedling in a bit of guerrilla gardening. Stuck them in in the dirt bits in a chicane on our street.

makes me think

My Last post, the one below, made me think about how things have changed. Not too long ago people could stand on boardwalks above beaches, or near football fields or netball courts and watch the kids play.

Now a days you will be singled out, questioned, interrogated, suspected and possibly arrested. For doing nothing.

On our local beach tourists are chased off the beach if they have a camera. Parents can't take photos of their kids in the nippers carnivals.

Good onya Hetty Johnson. She's the local (Qld) uber wowser. she claims anything and everything will result in kids being raped, killed, murdered and worse. And she's to blame for all of the ultra protectionism in Queensland, and a big part in why tourists think twice about heading for this part of the world for a holiday.

Jealousy

On the way back from Brisbane today there was a cute little nine or ten year old doting over her mother.

Mum had long hair and kiddie poos was brushing and grooming and plaiting her hair.

I have fairly long hair and was watching and getting jealous. I wanted and needed the same grooming the mum was getting. And then I thought hang on, me am old man, she am little girl, other she am mum. Not right.

Until I looked around the carriage and watched three or four women with lots of hair with the same longing and hoping look on their face.

Little kid you really do do wonders for your your mum. She might never ever tell you that you do wonders, but everyone in that train carriage reckons you are a marvel.
