a little bit of paradise

The google map shows a little bit of Dicky Beach in Queensland. The road marked as Crees Parade between Ulm Street and Bray Street doesn't actually have a bit of road along it. It is lake side land owned by the council and taken over, at least in part, by the people who own houses in Bray Street.

Most blocks of land have straight boundaries, usually with fences along them. those in Bray Street have very irregular boundaries which seem to stray a long way from the official straight boundary indicated on council maps.

Calmap is the local council mapping site and it shows how much of the area is not privately owned and how straight the boundaries are.

These are some pics of the area, showing the large tree they;ve cut down, the fire pit, the logs for seats.

Some pictures of the garden

Eggs. The little ones are from the first few laid by our new hens, and weigh about55gm. The big ones from the Lohman Brown and weigh about 100-110gms

The baby chooks

Begonia, neglected, not watered, full shade and flowering madly.

Salacca - the Balinese Snake Skin Fruit. Very thorny customer LOL.

Pots of vegies, brussels and lettuce and on the string frame, beans and peas.

The wee ghosties - lace curtains and mosquito net to protect the nectarines from fruit fly

Tomatoes - protected from fruit fly by using chux super wipes.

Quite a hot chilli

My pansy.

The coffee bush loaded with new growth.

looking good on the home front

Some days are bad, some days are good. And then the news from the specialists make us both of us feel better.

She Who Must Be Obeyed went to see her specialist during the week and came home with the great news that the chemotherapy is controlling and maybe even diminishing her cancers. No one can say for certain because with the carcinoid syndrome her cancers are microscopic and un-detectable using the best machinery available.

So there it is. Not cured. But under control. And on the chemo for the next two years before the next round of MRI examinations to see if anything can be found.

Mad passionate love was made to celebrate. And it was good because I no longer worry I might break her or damage her or hurt her. Strange the way the mind works, I was so delicate and tender and gentle and worried for months because of what she has. Nothing has changed except for the doctors' diagnosis, but it made the world of difference. A little bit of a weight was lifted from my shoulders at least.

cats LOL

I wrote to the local paper about feral cat day. The first of August 2009 was the day when any unregistered cats became feral under state laws. A little legal oversight by both the local and state governments. LOL

And now I am a fool and obsessive and cruel for suggesting that my neighbours control their bloody animals.

There are three cat trappers in my suburb and at least one in the next door suburb. The only reason to run traps full time would be the skin trade and mentioning that in the paper has caused a mini storm in a tea cup. Unless they are eating them?

And every time a cat goes missing my neighbours come running to me. I don;t trap cats. I have no need to. I have almost cat proofed my yard and any that are stupid enough to get in will be seen off by my dogs.

so all of the irresponsible, un-sociable, anti-community, law flouting cat owners near me. register your cats and keep them at home or the cat trappers will get them and your moggie will end up as part of a high class fur coat in Shanghai. Or a burger in Hanoi.

the dogs

Took our two dogs to the local farmers market, a long hike for me with my buggered everything, but nonetheless very nice. Got some grapes and avacado and fresh ginger. Surprising there weren't any seedling stalls.

Been ages but we used to have two or three seedling stalls, one for herbs, one fro vegies, one for flowes.

Nothing.
Ah well.

And the two dogs - Nuggett is in the santa hat on this blog. The rat, officially known as Cyrano after Cyran deBergerac because he was a great lover, or humper, when we first got him. The rat is half chihuahua and half terrier and thinks its an alsation. Growls and snarls and jumps at any other dog.

The trip to the markets quietened him down a lot, too many people and too many dogs and he almost behaved. Until we get to our drive way and he tries to attack our neighbours American Pit Bull. He won't learn.

Here they are:-

garden

Middle of winter up here in Queensland and everything is growing crazily.

Buddhas hand citrus and lemon are both flowering, the lemon has fruits from mature to two weeks old on it. So's the nectarine and carambola. The soursop has fruit on it and so do the bananas.

Celery, beetroot, lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, 3 types of pumpkin, corn, beans, peas, perennial spinach, chokos all growing madly.

And the hibiscus. We pinched a six inch cutting a couple of years ago and it is thriving, covered in dozens of huge double pink flowers.

Planted a mandarin and a lemonade tree seedling in a bit of guerrilla gardening. Stuck them in in the dirt bits in a chicane on our street.

makes me think

My Last post, the one below, made me think about how things have changed. Not too long ago people could stand on boardwalks above beaches, or near football fields or netball courts and watch the kids play.

Now a days you will be singled out, questioned, interrogated, suspected and possibly arrested. For doing nothing.

On our local beach tourists are chased off the beach if they have a camera. Parents can't take photos of their kids in the nippers carnivals.

Good onya Hetty Johnson. She's the local (Qld) uber wowser. she claims anything and everything will result in kids being raped, killed, murdered and worse. And she's to blame for all of the ultra protectionism in Queensland, and a big part in why tourists think twice about heading for this part of the world for a holiday.
